Alex Niven Announced as Tribune’s New Editor

Editors

Tribune is pleased to announce that socialist writer and academic Alex Niven will be joining as its new editor. Niven, author of New Model Island, Folk Opposition and The North Will Rise Again, brings a wealth of experience in political and cultural criticism. His work has explored themes of regionalism, class, and national identity, making him a fitting choice to help lead Tribune at this critical moment.

Originally founded in 1937, Tribune has long been a voice for democratic socialism in Britain. Relaunched in 2018 with the support of Jacobin magazine, it has since grown to reach 15,000 print subscribers, alongside a larger online readership. Under Niven’s leadership, Tribune will continue its mission of providing rigorous socialist analysis, sharp cultural commentary, and a platform for working-class movements.

‘I’m honoured to take on this role at Tribune, a publication with such a vital role in sustaining the British left through the peaks and troughs of its modern history,’ Niven said. ‘At a time of deep political and economic crisis, there is an urgent need for independent socialist media that not only critiques but also offers a vision for a better future. I look forward to building on Tribune’s recent successes and expanding its mission as a catalyst for left revival.’
