A New Era for Tribune

Editors

Under new leadership, Tribune will continue its print publication, which has been in circulation since 1937, while pursuing an ambitious expansion of its editorial mission.

Our mission remains, as Michael Foot wrote on the magazine’s twenty-first birthday, “to sustain the old cause with the old weapons."

We’re pleased to announce that the publication of Tribune will continue under the stewardship of Mohamed Ali Harrath, Chairman of E Media Group (parent company of Islam Channel) and veteran of the UK media scene.

The owner, Tribune Media Group, is supported by an editorial advisory board composed of longstanding socialists and trade unionists, including Nation magazine president and Jacobin founder Bhaskar Sunkara and chaired by Labour MP Jon Trickett.

Tribune will continue its print publication, which has been in circulation since 1937, while pursuing an ambitious expansion of its editorial mission.

Under the new ownership, Tribune plans to increase its print frequency and invest in new platforms — including video content, podcasts, and newsletters — to reach broader audiences with news, reporting and democratic socialist ideas, both in the UK and beyond.

Editor Alex Niven and the existing editorial staff will continue to help guide the publication.

Jacobin publisher Asher Dupuy-Spencer said: “We are delighted that Tribune will continue to be in good hands. Mohamed Ali Harrath has a long history of being an independent voice in the media, of campaigning and of providing a platform to those who are ignored in today’s media and political landscape”.

Currently reaching over 10,000 readers each quarter through its magazine and hundreds of thousands online every month, Tribune has been at the heart of leftwing politics and debate in Britain for 88 years: anti-fascist and anti-imperialist, for peace, equality and socialism throughout.

It counts historic Labour figures such as Aneurin Bevan and Michael Foot among its former editors, and has published iconic writers including George Orwell, Barbara Castle, Upton Sinclair, H.G. Wells, Doris Lessing, and George Bernard Shaw.

Jon Trickett, chair of the Tribune advisory board, said: “The UK is crying out for an alternative to the establishment media. The scourge of growing poverty alongside extreme wealth should be at the top of the news agenda. The voices of socialists, trade unionists, anti-racists, peace campaigners and anti-imperialists need to be heard far more loudly and clearly”.

Tribune aims to build on its historic socialist and internationalist legacy and speak with and for a new generation”.

Mohamed Ali Harrath said: “A new future for Tribune should excite anyone who wants real change, and a better and brighter future for all”.

“The editorial independence and the tradition of Tribune are assured, and I’m confident that it can become an even more powerful voice for the entire progressive left, whether inside or outside the Labour Party, as well as for the huge numbers who feel they have no voice in politics and public life”.
